Anonymous Private Party Funding in Denmark: How do journalists cover this issue?
Merved, August Kaae ; Shavit, Anna (advisor) ; Turková, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis intends to examine the amount- and reasons for the news coverage related to the controversial party funding system in Denmark. This is achieved through comparisons of other political cases during the Danish 2022 and 2019 elections in a quantitative media analysis. The results are then analyzed and discussed using the data from eight interviewed Danish journalists working on some of the seven most prominent Danish media outlets. These qualitative interview data provide insights into reasons, motives, and causes for the fluctuation and difference in the coverage between the other observed and analyzed political cases in the past two elections. The findings show that the journalists deem party funding a complex and technical subject, but still, a subject deemed important to cover by journalists. However, in a fast-paced news agenda, the non-transparent party funding is covered less in comparison with news topics or cases during elections that are more emotionally charged and personalized, or topics that can provide a more direct influence on society, according to the qualitative data - as opposed to the more complex cases of political funding.

The main aim of the thesis is to analysis the past fifty years of energy policy in Denmark to gain insight on how Denmark has become one of the European leaders in decarbonising its economy and developing renewable energy resources. A thorough review of academic articles, government and international institutional reports, and books on decentralised energy and climate change were essential for the research required for this work and make up the literature review section. The analysis and results section is divided into three parts that cover the three phases of the Danish energy transition and analyses the different government policies implemented during the different stages and how well they were in achieving the government's goals. - Phase one: Adding renewable energy production into energy system. - Phase two: Seeking solutions to the intermittency of renewable energy technologies when renewable energy production is between 40-50%. - Phase three: Seeking storage solutions in an 100% renewable energy system. The research led to some important insights that may be useful for other states seeking to decarbonise their economies within their own contexts and some policy recommendations conclude the paper.

Sources and framing: a comparison of media coverage of climate change across the world
McCauley, Amina Rhyl ; Neag, Annamária (advisor) ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (referee)
in English This paper looks into how climate change is being covered by newspaper media in two Global South countries and two Global North countries - India, the Philippines, Denmark and Australia. While there is some literature on who the main sources are in climate change coverage, as well as how frequently climate change is covered in different countries, there is less literature on how climate change is framed, and how this relates to who the main sources are. Analyzing articles from three newspapers in each country, this content analysis gathered data on what sources are being predominantly used in news articles, and further, how these articles are being framed. It was found that climate change has become a highly politicized issue in the media across most of these countries, and that the main voice in how climate change is becoming to be understood is politicians - except for in Denmark. At the same time, it was found that climate change is mainly being framed as an issue in need of action - except for in Australia.

The diploma thesis entitled "Geostrategic Importance of Greenland" deals with the current geopolitical position of the island in the context of advancing climate change. This brings Greenland many opportunities, but also threats that could affect its further development. The main aim of the work is therefore to examine how the geographical location of the island in combination with the advancing climate change affects its development, especially towards the future full independence from the Kingdom of Denmark. The work maps the current situation of Greenland in terms of newly emerging opportunities as well as the threats it also faces. Furthermore, the work focuses on the relationship between Greenland and Denmark and tries to describe the strategic importance of the island for Denmark. Although the Arctic is an area where states have cooperated in the past decades, in recent years tensions have been growing in the region between the Russian Federation, which is increasing its military presence there, and Western states represented by the North Atlantic Alliance. In addition, China is trying to penetrate the region, which is not indifferent to the strategic importance of the region, and other non-Arctic actors, led by the European Union, are also turning their attention to the region. The...
